Other Contests

RWoP was the start for me, but since last March, I was amazed at the numerous contests out there!  Now, my facebook page, emails and phone calls are filled with all my foodie friends.  We vote for each other & cheer each other on!  What a treasure.

I have just had so much fun creating new recipes.  I was a runner up in one contest.  I was a finalist in a contest & got to meet Claire Robinson.  I truly love cooking, creating new recipes and am having a blast.

Here is the recipe for my Butterscotch cheesecake in Bacon Cups!

Butterscotch Cheesecake in Bacon Cups
Servings: Makes 12
15 strips of Sugardale Ready Bacon®
4 oz. cream cheese
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
¼ cup butterscotch chips
1. Cut 1/4 of bacon off slice. Take long strips and round in
mini muffin pans. Dice remaining bacon.
2. Place some diced bacon on bottom of tin.
3. Melt chips in microwave. Carefully watch and stir to
ensure it does not burn.
4. In a bowl, mix room temperature cream cheese, brown
sugar, vanilla, and egg. Whisk in melted butterscotch. Add
reserved chopped bacon.
5. Spoon cream cheese into bacon “Cups”.
6. Bake for 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy! What a great taste…Smokey bacon and creamy
cheesecake…with Butterscotch? Delicious

Phase 2 RWoP

Many of us were relieved when the second phase of the contest was rolled out.  No videos, just pictures of our dishes.  Whew!  Kraft was now giving away $500.00 for original recipes.

The contest was then open to men who wanted to join.  So many wonderful cooking guys joined this community and more friendships were made.

Below is my winning recipe...I hope you enjoy!

What can I say? Jalapeno Poppers and Mexican Corn Bread together in a poblano pepper!! Yep, I use the pepper as the muffin cup. These are just so fun and so easy to whip up! Everywhere I take these, someone is asking for the recipe. The presentation is absolutely beautiful. I really like to serve these when I make a big pot of Chili!

RWoP - the beginning

One day in March 2009, I was sitting at my computer & I heard a commercial.  Paula Deen was partnering with Kraft to host a cooking contest.  Four Ladies would win $25,000 for their winning recipes.  All I could say was "Wow...there are cooking contests for money?"  Little did I know that embarking in the RWoP journey would change my life forever!  I went to the web site and signed up.  Then I realized I would have to submit videos of me creating dishes using Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese.  Really?  That was step one of me having to get out of my comfort zone.  Normally, I hide from the camera, but I really wanted a shot at this!  We taped & taped & taped.  I didn't know a thing about taping videos, editing...I was so not in my comfort zone again.  With the help of family and friends, we pulled it off.

Then the site was all buzzing about meeting in Savannah for the live event.  It was crazy.  A bunch of ladies who met through http://www.realwomenofphiladelphia.com/ were coming from all across the country to support the finalists and get to know each other.  It was better than I could have ever imagined!  We had our own cook off.  Went on tours together & made life long friendships.

For the live event, a group of us had agreed to dance & sing...ON STAGE with PAULA DEEN!  Never, ever have I gone that far from the comfort zone.  It is a memory that will stay with me forever.

Ten months later, we are still at it.   Next post will discuss phase 2 of the RWoP contest.
